On October 18, 2024, Associate Professor L.V. Pikun of the Department of Foreign Philology held the next meeting of the Literary Research Club. During the session, philology students had the opportunity to delve into the world of O. Henry’s short stories, particularly “A Broker’s Romance” and “While the Auto Waits.” The participants thoroughly analyzed these works, focusing on the narrative structure, character development, and the use of literary devices. The students discovered how O. Henry skillfully employs metaphors, symbols, and irony to convey deep emotions and create unforgettable characters.
Special attention was given to the analysis of time and space in the stories, as well as the role of artistic details in shaping the atmosphere of the works. The club members noted how the author, through seemingly simple plots, reveals complex human relationships and life situations.
The meeting proved to be highly productive and engaging, fostering the development of literary analysis skills and deepening the students’ understanding of O. Henry’s works. The students were pleased with the knowledge and experience gained, which will undoubtedly benefit them in their further studies and professional endeavors.
