The Department of Foreign Philology at Chernihiv Polytechnic National University traditionally joined the celebration of International Dictionary Day — an occasion that reminds us of the vital role lexicography plays in the development of languages, cultures, and academic communication.
This year, students were given an engaging and creatively challenging task — to find Ukrainian equivalents for new English words that entered dictionaries in 2025. They worked with a selection of modern neologisms reflecting the trends of the digital era, social changes, and new cultural phenomena.
During the discussions, students demonstrated linguistic intuition, a strong sense of style, and the ability to adapt foreign vocabulary to the Ukrainian context. Such activities not only improve translation skills but also foster critical thinking and awareness of how languages evolve.
